Pacer Nazmul retires

Former Bangladesh paceman Nazmul Hossain, who did not play in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) this season but acted as the assistant coach of Legends of Rupganj, announced his retirement from cricket today.

The 31-year-old cricketer made his debut for the Bangladesh national team during the ICC Champions Trophy on September 2004 and played 38 ODIs and two Tests for the Tigers. He last played for the Tigers in March 2012 and his last match in any form of cricket was when he played for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in last season's DPL.

He had to fight with injuries throughout his career but looking back at his career the cricketer found himself satisfied. "I count myself very lucky to have been able to play with the likes of Akram [Khan] bhai, Sujon [Khaled Mahmud] bhai, Sumon [Habibul Bashar] bhai, who are leaders. I also shared dressing rooms with Mashrafe [Bin Mortaza] bhai and Shakib [Al Hasan]," he said.

"Overall I think got back more from cricket than I lost," he added.

His fondest memories were of being in the team for Bangladesh's first win against formidable opponents. "When Bangladesh won it's first-ever match against India, I was there. Also when we beat Australia and Sri Lanka. So I consider myself lucky. Not-too-long career but there were many achievements."
