Shadman included in squad for first WI Test

Shadman Islam

Bangladesh selectors had a surprise up their sleeves as they included Shadman Islam in the squad for the first Test against West Indies, scheduled for November 22.

Earlier, Bangladesh had announced a 13-member squad for the first Test with Shakib Al Hasan returning to the side after he had to come back mid-way through the Asia Cup due to an injury relapse. Shadman featured for BCB XI in the two-day practice match (November 18-19) against West Indies at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram. The 23-year-old left-hander, who has over 3,000 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 46.5, was in fine form today while batting against the likes Kemar Roach, Roston Chase and Shannon Gabriel as he hit a brilliant 169-ball 73, laced with 10 fours and a six. He was also involved in a 126-run opening partnership with Soumya Sarkar, who was recalled into the Tigers' lineup after a long absence from Test cricket.

SQUAD

Shakib Al Hasan (Captain), Soumya Sarker, Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Mithun, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Ariful Haque, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Taijul Islam, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Nayeem Hasan, Shadman Islam.
