Shakib named Bangladesh's captain for Asia Cup, World Cup

Shakib submits 3 nomination forms

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has named star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan the country's one-day international (ODI) captain for the upcoming Asia Cup and 50-over World Cup .

BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon announced the board's decision to reporters at his residence in the capital.

"We have appointed Shakib as the captain for Asia Cup and World Cup. The World Cup and Asia Cup squad will be announced tomorrow. The selectors will name a squad of 17 members," Nazmul said.

"If I give Shakib the captaincy for the Asia Cup, how can I give anyone else the captaincy for the World Cup?" Papon said when asked whether there was a plan to have different captains for the two major events.

The BCB boss said that he felt no one is better than Shakib in dealing with the pressure of a global event.

"Pressure is a big thing. World Cup pressure and pressure in bilateral series is different. So to handle that pressure in the World Cup, I think there is no-one better than Shakib," Papon retorted.
