Third Test called off after attack in Christchurch
The third and final Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand at Christchurch has been cancelled after scenes unfolded where a gunman opened fire inside a mosque in Christchurch, an incident which led to injuries and deaths.
Members of the Bangladesh team were set to perform their Jumma prayers when they were warned not to go inside. The players made it to safety but are left very distraught. The scenario is understood to be still unfolding with the 'Prime Minister of New Zealand calling it an unprecedented act of violence'.
A joint decision from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) was made to cancel the third Test which was scheduled to be played on March 16 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by the shocking situation in Christchurch. A joint decision between NZC and the @BCBtigers has been made to cancel the Hagley Oval Test. Again both teams and support staff groups are safe. BLACKCAPS (@BLACKCAPS) March 15, 2019
