Tigers to announce World Cup squad tomorrow
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that the squad for the upcoming World Cup in England, slated to begin from May 30, will be announced tomorrow.
Earlier, while talking to reporters the BCB president Nazmul Hassan said that the management are considering sending a 17-member squad for the Ireland series.
"We will be providing 15 names for the World Cup squad. For the tri-nation series, there will be at least 17 names. So, we can have players from there since there is the opportunity," the BCB president said.
Although the deadline for submitting the squad is April 23, the teams will have until May 23, if they want to make changes to their World Cup squad.
The BCB president suggested that Tigers will get an extra bit of time with the tri-nation series in Ireland an available series where they can not only gauge performances to bring changes to the World Cup selection but also cope with doubt about injury and players' form.
"We have to provide a squad [for World Cup] but there are some problems. One is that the players who we are thinking about are not showing form. Injury is another issue. There were many who would have been in the squad but they are not fully fit. These factors were causing problems in settling on a 15-man squad. Since we have the opportunity to change later, we will provide the squad. If someone is returning from injury and performs well, then they have a chance. Maybe someone is not performing right now but does well in the tri-nation series, then we can provide them with a new chance," he said.
Due to injuries to likes of Taskin Ahmed, Tigers might face selection issues but the board president reiterated that the squad that will be handed tomorrow may not be final.
"Taskin is injured and we don't know how he will do if he returns to form. You won't get too many names. We will be giving a 15-member squad but we are awaiting the tri-nation series and we will take the final decision after that," he concluded.
