“We don’t yet possess ability to pick up 20 Indian wickets’
To win a Test match, a team needs to pick up 20 opposition wickets. Bangladesh's form in the longer format in questionable and India are on the other end of that spectrum, having hammered South Africa in the first two matches of the ongoing series at home.
Bangladesh cricket team's chief selector Minhazul Abedin admitted that the Tigers do not yet have the ability to pick up 20 Indian wickets. He also cited that the fitness of the pace bowlers is an issue for the upcoming two-Test series, slated to begin on November 14.
"It's a hard task to pick up 20 wickets in foreign soil. We are assessing and trying to work out ways through our domestic cricket so that our fast bowlers and spinners can bowl a lot of overs in both innings combined in the longer format.
"If a bowler has the ability to bowl 25 overs in a day then in the next match he will be able to bowl more overs. His strength and energy will improve. In that regard, I can't say our bowlers still have the ability to pick up 20 wickets," Minhazul said.
Minhazul said that the pace bowling department is a worry for the Tigers ahead of the series against India.
"We have worried about our pacers for the last six months. A number of players are injured. Even some from the HP squad are injured.
"There has always been a question mark over the fitness of our pacers. We are emphasizing the aspect of fitness from the first division and think we will get some results inside one or two years. Without fitness it's very difficult to bowl in two innings," he concluded.
