Windies A’s tour of Bangladesh in doubt
The New Zealand U-19 team had postponed their tour of Bangladesh earlier and this time West Indies A team's upcoming tour of Bangladesh has been thrown into doubt, although Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed that it was not a matter of concern over security.
"There is some doubt," the CEO informed while talking to reporters. "The West Indies cricket board has some limitations. Its not only the Bangladesh tour, discussion is going on about a few other tours as well. Nothing has been decided yet," he added.
The Windies A team were due to arrive in May to play five one-dayers and three four-day matches.
Nizamuddin informed that the tour was not in doubt due to security issues. "Its not a matter of security. They have some ongoing internal issues and its not upto me to talk about those things. A board might go through bad times. It is true for all so it is not a problem specific to them," he reiterated.
It is understood that West Indies cricket board is going through a financial crisis which is the possible reason for them trying to opt out of the tour.
New Zealand postponed their U-19 team's tour of Bangladesh as parents 'held reservations' following the shock of the Christchurch attack. The BCB CEO said that New Zealand had asked to consider rescheduling the tour for some other time. "Through analysis of the overall factors involved, they have asked us to re-consider. They might come here at a later time. We have a series [against New Zealand] away in October," he said.
The CEO however said that a packed schedule meant that New Zealand U-19 not coming now will not have a major impact. "We have a series in England. Then there is the matter of going to New Zealand. Since the [ U-19] World Cup is in South Africa, so away series are more important," he concluded.
