Winning start for U-19s
Bangladesh U-19s got their New Zealand tour off to a winning start, beating Canterbury Invitation XI by 146 runs in a warm-up match today.
The young Tigers geared up for their upcoming series against New Zealand U-19s with a confidence-boosting win in the preparation match as they notched up a whooping 388 runs in 50 overs, courtesy of a 73-ball 102 from opener Tanzid Hasan – an innings containing 13 fours and two sixes – and fifties from Tawhid Hridoy and Shahadat Hossain.
A late blitz from Shamim Hossain, who scored 42 off just 14 deliveries, took Bangladesh to 388 for 7. Following rain, D/L was used applied and target reduced to 344 in 45 overs.
18-year-old medium pacer Shoriful Islam struck twice early on as Canterbury never really recovered managing to reach 197 for the loss of seven wickets. Hasan Murad also bagged two wickets for Bangladesh U-19s.
