Shakib in ‘Marquee list’ for IPL Auction 2018
Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan enters the IPL auctions as a 'Marquee' player with a base price of RS 1 Crore, which is the base price for the all 16 elite players in the Marquee Players' list.
Shakib is in a rich vein of form for the Tigers in the ongoing tri-nation series, picking up player-of-match awards in both games so far. The all-rounder also reached the personal landmark of 10,000 runs in all three formats combined when he struck 67 against the Lankans in Tigers' last match.
Shakib was placed alongside the likes of England's Ben Stokes, Joe Root and India's Ravichandran Ashwin in the IPL Auction 2018 which takes place on January 27 and 28 at Bengaluru. The all-rounder, who had featured in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders in the past seven seasons, was released by the Kolkata outfit for the upcoming edition of the money-spinning tournament.
According to the wishlist of the eight IPL franchises the original list of 1122 players was shortened to 578.
The players will go under the auction hammer in two sets with Stokes, Mitchell Starc, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Yuvraj Singh, R Ashwin, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan and Glenn Maxwell in the first set while Shakib, Ajinkya Rahane, Harbhajan Singh, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo and Kane Williamson will be in the second set, The India Express reported.
The auction begins with marquee players' list followed by capped players -- in the order of batsmen, all-rounders, wicketkeepers, fast bowlers and spinners.
Ashwin has been placed at the top of the list of Marquee players while Shakib is 11th on the list. Mustafizur Rahman is the second highest place Bangladesh players as he is 56th in the full list which included all 578 players while Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal, who also started the year brilliantly is 193rd in the 578-player list.
