Rhodes coming to Bangladesh this week for Tigers' coach interview
English coach Steve Rhodes is set to travel to Bangladesh this week to attend an interview for the head coach role of the Tigers. Bangladesh Cricket Board chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed the news on Tuesday.
According to reports, Rhodes is almost certain for the head coach role. CEO Nizamuddin informed that consultant Gary Kirsten also recommended Rhodes for the post.
The Englishman featured in 11 Test and nine ODIs for his country and was a wicket-keeper batsman during his playing days.
CEO said: "Steve Rhodes is in our shortlist. We are hoping that he will arrive here within 2-3 days to meet us. We will conduct a meeting with him in the same way we did with Richard Pybus and Phil Simmons as you have already seen."
"As you already know that we have been shorthanded in coaching staffs. We gave the list we had to Gary Kirsten and he has been working on it. It can be said that it is a joint effort."
CEO said BCB were emphasizing on two factors. "We gave priority to experience, we primarily talked with few coaches who were big names and also has experience. But either they were not available for different reasons or could not come due to family commitment," he said.
"He (Rhodes) is one of the experienced coaches among the ones who are currently available. Basically we are giving priority to experience. As you know that the next World Cup will be held in England which is also an important issue here. If we can include someone who knows their condition well than we can gain some extra benefits"
Rhodes was the director of cricket for Worcestershire but left his post following an internal investigation in November last year. It was reported that he delayed telling the county about the arrest of all-rounder Alex Hepburn, who was charged with two counts of rape.
