Steve Rhodes Tigers’ new head coach
Steve Rhodes has been appointed as head coach of the Tigers. The post of the Bangladesh national team's head coach had been vacant for the last seven months since the resignation of Chandika Hathurusingha last October.
Rhodes's contract will see him take the reigns of the Tigers till the T20 World Cup in 2020 in Australia. His contract will be effective immediately according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
Rhodes was a common name in both BCB and Gary Kirsten's list and president Nazmul Hassan said: "We talked to Rhodes face to face today and we were satisfied fully. We are happy to inform you that Steve Rhodes is the new head coach of Bangladesh.
"After considering everything, we decided that Rhodes is the right person for the job. After Eid, he will join the team with 20th June," he added.
The new head coach was a proud man as he spoke to reporters.
"I just want to say how proud I am to be involved in Bangladesh cricket. It' a wonderful cricket nation. The support that the boys get in Bangladesh team is tremendous. Also the expectation is high and sometimes that support can go boil over to bring disappointments.
Personally, to be involved in a major role, to be given the responsibility by the president and the board is a fantastic honour. It's a privilege to be involved in Bangladesh cricket," Rhodes said.
