The pace quartet has to fire together: Walsh

Yet to come up with an appointment to fill the vacant head coach's position, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is once again relying on bowling coach and West Indies fast bowling legend Courtney Walsh to be the interim coach for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan starting from June 3 in Dehradun.

The Tigers reached the final of the T20I Nidahas Trophy under Walsh in March and the 55-year-old said that he was excited to be involved in the capacity once more and was looking forward to his charges playing a good style of cricket, much like they did in Sri Lanka.

"I am very excited to be involved again. We need to play a good style of cricket like we did in Sri Lanka. We should improve in certain areas. Hopefully, we will have a successful series. I think once we don't get complacent and remain focused on what we have to do, we will be able to perform to the best of our ability," said Walsh after the training session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

One of the all-time great fast bowlers, Walsh was also looking for a more consistent performance from fast bowlers like Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Abu Jayed and Abu Hider in the upcoming series.

"I'd like to see the bowling department get a little bit more consistent, especially the fast bowlers. They have not been consistent over the last couple of tours. I'd like to see the quartet stand out together," he said.

When reminded of the strength of the Afghanistan side, especially in the spin department, Walsh wanted to shift the focus back on Bangladesh's strengths rather than focusing on the opposition's.

Bangladesh, at 10 th in the world T20I rankings, are two spots below Afghanistan and Walsh said that they were thinking about the rankings too and were eager to win the series.

"We have to focus on that because the World T20 is not too far away. We need to get up in the rankings as well. We can't be complacent, and we have to go out and play good cricket. It is very important to come out with a victory in this series, to help us with the rankings and also give us confidence going into the West Indies tour," said Walsh.

The weather and conditions in Dehradun will also be challenging for the Tigers as the Afghanistan team have already started a camp in the city, and Walsh added that it will be important for his charges to adjust with conditions quickly.
