Zia runner-up in Delhi

Grand Master Ziaur Rahman became runner-up in the 16th Delhi Open International Rating Chess tournament after playing out a draw against Indian GM Karthikeyan Murali in the 10th and final round in New Delhi yesterday.

GM Zia earned eight points out of 10 games to share the second position along with two other players before grabbing the second position on his own in tie-breaking system. Out of 10 matches, Zia posted seven victories including four against Vietnamese GM Tran Tuan Minh, Tajik GM Amonatov Farrukh, Russian GM Rozum Ivan and Dutch GM Sergei Tiviakov.

He only lost to eventual champion GM Naiditsch Arkadij of Azerbaijan, who took the title with 8.5 points.
