BD go down by 47 runs
Bangladesh lost the 3-match T20I series against New Zealand when they went down by 47 runs in the second game at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui today.
Chasing 196, Bangladesh looked like they had a semblance of a chance to get close to the colossal total during the fourth wicket partnership of 68 runs between Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman. After Soumya was dismissed for 39 in the 11th over with the score at 104 for 4, Bangladesh lost their last six wickets without much resistance, and were all out for 148 in 18.1 overs.
Sabbir’s 48 from 32 was the highest score by a Bangladeshi batter today, and his cameo contained three fours and three massive sixes. Soumya looked good in his 39 from 26, but fell to the short pitch trap set by Trent Boult.
For the hosts, Ish Sodhi took 3-36 in four overs while captain Kane Williamson and Ben Wheeler chipped in with two wickets each.
Earlier, Colin Munro’s blitzkrieg of 101 in 54 balls enabled the Black Caps to post 195 for 7.
The 123-run partnership between Munro and Tom Bruce extended the game at a rapid pace and threatened to take the total well beyond 200 at one stage. Late wickets from Rubel Hossain helped the tourists to restrict New Zealand to their second highest T20I total against Bangladesh.
Munro made a mockery of the erratic bowling from Bangladesh and kept on punishing the bad balls on a regular basis. His innings contained seven fours and seven sixes, and he was absolutely ruthless on the slow bowlers. Mahmudullah Riyad conceded 32 in two overs, Mosaddek Hossain 22 in two while Shakib was carted for 32 runs in four overs.
Tom Bruce played second fiddle to Munro, but scored 59 runs in 39 balls. He struck five fours and a six in his knock. He kept his end secured when wickets were falling after Munro’s blistering century.
Rubel Hossain was the highest wicket-taker for his side, with 3-37 in four overs. Mustafizur Rahman was the most economical, and he gave away 30 runs in four overs.
