Embarrassment all round
County Cricket will prevail through this embarrassment. However, New Zealand Herald described this dismissal as “Oh dear. There's embarrassing - and then there's this.”
South Africa’s Dean Elgar was dismissed off a delivery so embarrassing that Hampshire leg-spinner Mason Crane dropped into a squat with his hands in his head. No wonder he was surprised given that the ball was a double-bouncer that got him a wicket.
New Zealand herald wrote: 'Anyone who played junior cricket as a kid will remember a number of double (or even triple) bouncing deliveries sent down by a youngster trying to be Shane Warne. But by the time you've reached County level cricket you'd think such occurrences would be eradicated.'
Most batsman would relish the thought of having a slow-bowler sending his worst delivery of the day in their general direction. Elgar however completely mistimed his attempted sweep and was bowled out in an awkward manner.
“It's hard to tell which player came out of the blunder more red-faced with the youngster dropping into a squat with his head in his hands, incredulous at the situation”, New Zealand Herald said of the incident.
