Mazid retires hurt 8 short of ton
The 100 or so spectators at the MA Aziz Stadium had watched a little-known player called Abdul Mazid flay England's bowlers for an 83-ball 92 before lunch on the opening day of the two-day warm-up match between BCB XI and England XI.
They stuck around through the 40-minute break to see Mazid come out and score a well-deserved ton, and of course continue to be entertained by his strokeplay. But after the break Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who was batting with Mazid, walked out with Mominul Haque, whose name was not even in the team list.
Mominul's stay was a short one, as he was bowled for just one by Moeen Ali in the 30th over.
It was learnt that Mazid had been suffering from cramps during the break and so did not resume. That is quite surprising because, although it is quite hot in Chittagong, Mazid did not show any signs of discomfort during his innings before lunch.
It is unclear whether he will be allowed to resume his knock at a later point in the innings. If he cannot, it will be a shame for the 25-year-old because he will have missed an opportunity to score a hundred against an international team, something that was probably not on his list of possibilities even a month or two ago.
