Hyderabad will host Tigers’ maiden Test in India
Bangladesh will play their first Test in India during their neighbour’s 2016-17 home season.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement following its Tour Programme and Fixtures Committee meeting in Mumbai.
Bangladesh will visit for a one-off Test during the season, their first Test match in India since they were given Test status in 2000. India are the last of the Full Members to host Bangladesh for Test cricket, reports ESPNcricinfo.
The BCCI said the Bangladesh Test will be held in Hyderabad, but did not mention a date for it.
When contacted, Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told The Daily Star that they are yet to receive the formal statement, but BCCI is working behind the scenes to come up with a workable schedule for matches between India and Bangladesh in the future.
“The Indian Cricket Board has yet to finalise the date, but we know for sure that the Test match will take place during the current cricketing season,” the BCB CEO added.
The current cricketing season will run till March 2017.
On March 8, 2015, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon disclosed that Bangladesh would finally be playing a Test match on Indian soil, most likely during September later that year.
