Karthik admits surprise at King XI's revised target
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik admits that he was surprised by the revised target for Kings XI Punjab in the rain-hit IPL match yesterday.
Chasing a target of 192 for victory, Kings XI reached 96 for no loss in just 8.2 overs when rain interrupted proceedings and play was halted for more than an hour.
A new target was calculated by the Duckworth-Lewis -Stern method -- an update on the Duckworth-Lewis method. According to the revised target, Kings XI needed just 29 from 30 deliveries with Gayle blazing away.
"It's hard for me to predict what would've happened. It's interesting that at that stage, when play was stopped, they needed about eight runs an over. But after the [DLS] method, they suddenly needed only six, a run a ball, and that was surprising,” said a surprised Karthik.
“We came back after the rain and they said they needed just a run a ball, I didn't understand that part. I'm sure [DLS] has been something people are still trying to figure out."
Karthik opined that an alternative method to DLS can be used in the IPL. In Indian Domestic leagues the VJD method is used – developed by V Jayadevan.
“I always thought since VJD is an Indian method and this is an Indian domestic tournament, why not think about it in the future," Karthik said.
