Bangladesh wicketkeeper Liton Das has been ruled out of the second Test, starting in Colombo tomorrow, due to a rib injury he sustained during nets on Monday.

“Wicket-keeper batsman Liton Kumar Das has suffered an injury and will miss the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka. Das was struck by a ball on his left ribcage while batting in the nets today. Tests have confirmed a small fracture which will keep him out of the Test match,” read BCB statement issued tonight.

Liton was hit on the chest by a net bowler at the P Sara Oval during nets on Monday. He continued to bat but missed training on Tuesday, on the eve of the second Test, although training was optional for the Bangladesh team.

Liton made a return to the Bangladesh team in Galle after a 21-month gap from Test cricket. He took over the gloves from captain Mushfiqur Rahim, who was asked by the team management to play solely as a batsman higher up the order before the two-match series. But now Bangladesh will revert back to their captain taking over the gloves in the second Test, which will also be Bangladesh’s landmark 100th Test.
