Unbeaten 98 from India opener Murali Vijay placed his team on the driver’s seat at tea during the first Test against Bangladesh at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad today.

Indian batsmen Vijay and Virat Kohli went into the dressing room with India at 206 for 2 in 58 overs. Kohli was batting on 17 when the players left the field.

The only wicket that fell during the post-lunch session was of Cheteshwar Pujara for 83. The 178-run partnership in 50.1 overs between Pujara and Vijay kept the Bangladesh bowlers at bay during most of the session. Pujara was sent back by Mehedi Hasan Miraz for 83.

India went into lunch on the first day of the Test match against Bangladesh at 86 for 1 after 27 overs.

Although Taskin Ahmed gave Tigers an early breakthrough when he bowled KL Rahul for 2 with the fourth ball of the innings, Indian batsmen Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara settled down at the crease and took their team to lunch.

Vijay was unbeaten on 45 from 71 while Pujara was not out on 39 from 87. However, both of them were fortunate to survive in the 15th over bowled by Mehedi Hasan Miraz. Pujara’s edge went past Shakib Al Hasan at first slip, and in a similar manner, the ball evaded the fielder when Vijay got an edge playing a back foot glide.

The climax of the session came in the 19th over when Bangladesh missed a run-out chance. Both the batsmen were nearly at the same end when Taskin fielded the ball brilliantly at square leg. However, the bowler, Mehedi was unable to collect the throw and effect the run-out.

Taskin bowled 8 probing overs, and picked up a wicket for 17 runs. Mehedi and Kamrul Islam Rabbi both bowled eight overs in the first session.
