Akbar named captain of the ICC Under-19 World Cup team of the tournament
The ICC Under-19 World Cup team of the tournament, skippered by Akbar Ali, also includes two other players from the young Tigers' squad that lifted their maiden Under-19 World Cup trophy after beating India by three wickets (via DLS Method) in a rain-affected thrilling final at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday.
The official team of the tournament features representatives from six sides. Bangladesh's Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who scored a total of 184 runs at an average of 46 and Shahadat Hossain with three not-outs in his six innings, scored 131 runs averaging at a staggering 131, made the XI that will be led by Akbar. Akbar played a need-of-the-hour unbeaten 77-ball 43 in the final to help the young Tigers clinch their maiden title.
An adjudication panel of five selected both the team and player of the tournament, with commentators Ian Bishop, Rohan Gavaskar and Natalie Germanos joined by ESPN Cricinfo correspondent Sreshth Shah and ICC representative Mary Godbeer.
