Liton hundred helps Bangladesh post 321
Liton Kumar Das scored his second one-day international century as Bangladesh posted a challenging 321 for six against Zimbabwe in the first ODI at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.
Liton retired hurt after scoring 126 off 105 deliveries, his innings featuring 13 fours and two sixes. It was Liton's second ODI ton and first since his brilliant hundred against India in the 2018 Asia Cup final. The right-hander pulled a muscle as he looked to shift gear after reaching the hundred off 95 deliveries.
Mohammad Mithun scored 50 off 41 balls while Mohammad Saifuddin played a little cameo of 28 off 15 deliveries to finish the innings on a high.
Earlier, Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh's veteran opening batsman, was dismissed for a 43-ball 24 as Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza decided to bat first. The left-hander, who struck two boundaries in his innings, reviewed his decision against Zimbawe's young sensation Wesley Madhevere, only to find that he was hit right in front of the middle stump.
Tamim's innings was in stark contrast to that of opening partner Liton, who reached his 50 off 45 deliveries, his innings featuring six fours and a six. The right-hander was playing as smooth as ever, and so was Mazhar Uddin behind the microphone at the commentary box, alongside Gautam Bhimani.
The wasted review came back to haunt Bangladesh when Najmul Hossain Shanto was adjudged LBW by the umpire, with replays showing the ball missing the stumps by a long margin. However, Liton's fine hundred and good hitting by Mithun and Saifuddin towards the end ensured Bangladesh a massive total.
