BCB set to finally create RCAs

The Bangladesh Cricket Board will hold an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) to approve councillors and create Regional Cricket Associations (RCAs) and thus fulfil a long-standing promise.

"We are set to hold an EGM on July 26 to talk about regional cricket. We will seek approval from our respective board directors in this respect," BCB media committee chairman Tanvir Ahmed told reporters on Monday.

"After setting up our pilot project in Chattogram and Sylhet, we have begun setting up RCAs. However, the structure of our RCAs is yet to be finalised. Once it is done, we will place it before the board for approval," he added.

RCAs were touted to be a major step towards the decentralization of Bangladesh cricket at the administrative level. Decentralisation would see stronger regional bodies take both responsibility and accountability, backed by the right infrastructure, patrons and facilities to boost cricket. Cricket in the country has remained Dhaka-centric for a long time and it was learned that constitutional changes would be in the agenda during the EGM on July 26.
