Broad to bolster Proteas’ bid to end Aussie WTC supremacy

Former England pace legend Stuart Broad has made a sensational return to the Test arena — this time in South African colours. The veteran of 604 Test wickets will link up with the Proteas as a consultant ahead of their ICC World Test Championship Final clash against Australia at Lord's on June 11.

Broad, renowned for tormenting Australian batters throughout his career, especially in the Ashes, is set to attend South Africa's training session on June 9. It marks his first official coaching involvement since his retirement in 2023.

No bowler has taken more wickets against Australia than Broad's 153 in red-ball cricket — a stat not lost on Temba Bavuma's men as they gear up to topple Pat Cummins' side, the reigning WTC champions.

The 37-year-old also carries immense pedigree at Lord's, where the Final will be played — claiming 113 wickets in 28 Tests at the iconic venue, further adding to his strategic value.

South Africa have already arrived in England and will fine-tune their preparations with a warm-up fixture against Zimbabwe at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground in Sussex starting Tuesday.
