Tension has continued to flare in Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as match officials have sent in a letter to the umpires' chairman on their refusal to sit with match referee Debabrata Paul following heated arguments in match referees' meeting on Saturday.

A letter has been seen by The Daily Star, signed by match referees Neeyamur Rashid Rahul, Akhtar Ahmed and others, which cites that Debabrata's actions "severely undermined the environment of respect, safety and discipline that we strive to uphold".

The letter also stated that "Mr. Paul directed his aggression towards ICC match referee Neeyamur Rashid Rahul".

The letter has been sent to BCB President, BCB CEO and umpires committee chairman Iftekhar Rahman Mithu. It was learned that Debabrata was called to the umpires department as he had talked negatively in the media about the handling of Towhid Hridoy's suspension. It could be termed as conflict of interest as Debabrata himself is a match referee.

Debabrata however denied the allegations mentioned in the letter when asked by The Daily Star. He also briefed the media present in Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.

"I have sent a letter to BCB president detailing the whole incident. I have mentioned how match referee Neeyamur Rashid Rahul used foul language against me," Debabrata told The Daily Star.

"Now they are trying to divert the discussion another way and a few board directors have directly indulged or protected this. They are running a propaganda against me. The incident was being audio recorded and my verdict is that the full length audio recording be released," he added.
