Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal said that he has retired and no longer wants to play for the national team during a conversation with Pakistan cricket legend Shahid Afridi.

Tamim, who is captaining Fortune Barishal in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), was seen having a casual chat with Afridi, who is mentoring the Chittagong Kings side, his Barishal teammates Mohammad Nabi, Shaheen Afridi and a few other overseas cricketers in a video posted on Afridi's Youtube channel on Friday.

During the friendly conversation that took place in a hotel room, Afridi causally asked, "Tamim, you've completely retired, finished?" to which Tamim answered, "Yes, from the national team."

The left-hander has not played for Bangladesh since September 2023 after he was not picked for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

A public mudslinging between Tamim and Shakib Al Hasan, who was captain at the time, followed and Tamim has maintained his distance from the national team since then.

While Tamim is yet to officially retire from ODIs, which means he is eligible to play for Bangladesh in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, the Southpaw seemingly is not interested in making a comeback to the national team.

In the video, Tamim also posed an interesting question to Afridi, asking, "Will you join politics, Shahid bhai?" to which the former all-rounder had a hilarious response.

"I have seen what has happened to you guys, I don't want to get into it anymore," hinting at the public ire Shakib and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza are facing right now for their involvement with the ousted Awami League government.
