Future stars called up for HP’s training camp
Bangladesh Cricket Board's High Performance (HP) team's scheduled tour of Ireland had been pushed to next year due to the host board's international commitments, while the ongoing financial crisis in Sri Lanka had seen the SLC unable to host Bangladesh HP this year as well.
HP chairman Naimur Rahman had mentioned previously that they were going to schedule other assignments. In case it was not possible to play any series, the BCB were going to schedule camps. It was already known that the conditioning camp and pacers' camp will be held on May 14. The BCB has now elected a total 27 players for the HP training camp to be held at Cox's Bazar, Sylhet and Chattogram. The camp will begin at Cox's Bazar on May 14 with some of the promising younger stars of Bangladesh. A number of U-19 World Cup winners will be part of the camp.
Among the batters, national team's Shamim Hossain Patwari will be accompanied by other U-19 World Cup winning stars Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Towhid Hridoy. Amite Hasan, who impressed in the domestic competitions with good numbers in NCL and DPL was named while Aich Mollah, who has been the top run-getter in Youth ODIs last year have also been named.
Among the pacers, Mukidul Islam Mugdho, who is playing the BCB XI vs SL two-day match at BKSP, has been named alongside other pacers such as Ripon Mondol, Anamul Haque and Mohammad Musfik Hasan, who are also playing that game at BKSP.
Rejaur Rahman Raja, included in Bangladesh's first Test squad, had been included in the HP squad. Asked about Raja's inclusion, selector Habibul Bashar confirmed that Raja will join the HP team in some point of time. "We have included him since Raja has been with the HP. We have included quite a few pacers since Champaka Ramanayake will be in charge of the pace bowlers' camp and we wanted to see these pacers. In case Raja doesn't make the playing eleven, he will join the HP camp which would be going on for a considerable amount of time," Bashar told The Daily Star today.
Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, who showed promise in the last Bangladesh Premier League and followed it up with good performance in the Dhaka Premier League, will also go to the HP camp. Tanzim Hasan Sakib, another World Cup winner with the U-19 team in 2020, was also included.
Spinners Rakibul Hasan, Hasan Murad, Rishad Hossain and Aminul Islam Biplob have also been called up to the camp. Bangaldesh's U-19 World Cup winning captain Akbar Ali has also been asked to join the squad as wicket-keeper. While the camp will begin with 27 players, it will come down to 22 players after the initial stages.
