No one from the BCB contacted me: Gibson

The news of Ottis Gibson no longer extending his contract as the pace bowling coach of Bangladesh was confirmed on Thursday. However, in an exclusive interview with The Daily Star today, the Caribbean coach revealed that he was waiting for Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) response about new contract, but BCB did not show their side of interest . The excerpts of the interview are given below: 

The Daily Star (DS): Why did you quit your job as the pace bowling coach in Bangladesh when the time was going so well right after such a memorable victory in New Zealand?

Ottis Gibson (OG): It'd be wrong to say that I quit my job. Actually, the duration of my contract came to an end. You could say that the duration [of contract] was not extended.

DS: Why was it not extended? Disinterest from whose part?

OG: Certainly not from my part. You can ask the BCB if they wanted to renew the contract, and if so, when?

DS: Cricket Operations chairman Jalal Yunus said they had called you about a new deal.

OG: When did they call me? And who called?

DS: A person in charge of the BCB called during the New Zealand tour, and also had booked your return ticket to Bangladesh?

OG: Do you know who that person is?

DS: The chairman of Cricket Operations or the CEO of the BCB – either of the two.

OG: Listen, no one from the BCB contacted me about the contract [renewal], no one called. Neither Nizam Chowdhury nor the chairman of Cricket Operations, I did not get any response from them. I had sent an e-mail to CEO Nizamuddin on December 29, but he did not respond. Khaled Mahmud Sujan was present with the team, I had a talk with him. He said He didn't know what was happening, he did not want to comment regarding my presence or absence.

DS: Have you ever talked to the BCB about the new contract before?

OG: Only the Head Coach (Russell Domingo) contract was renewed before world Cup [T20] World Cup. Ryan Cook's (fielding coach) contract expired during World Cup. No one spoke to him after World Cup, we all went home and then he got an email saying his services was no longer required.  At that time I still had more than 60 days left of my previous contract so the talk of a new contract did not happen at that point. Now, when the time came, a discussion was imminent but they did not raise the topic. There was no impression that I would continue here.

DS: The pace bowlers have all mentioned about being greatly benefited from working with you. How enjoyable was it for you to work with them?

OG: I have a very good relationship with everyone. I'm glad to know that they have benefited. They have been attentive. We all wanted to improve the pace bowling of Bangladesh.
