‘It's a great feeling to win a Test match abroad’
Experienced left-arm spinner Taijul Islam was the hero as Bangladesh clinched their first Test win in the Caribbean in more than 15 years with a 101-run victory over the West Indies in Jamaica on Tuesday.
Taijul collected his 15th five-wicket haul in Tests on an absorbing fourth day at Sabina Park as the West Indies were bowled out for just 185 in their second innings to allow Bangladesh record their first Test triumph in the Caribbean since July of 2009.
Taijul took five for 50 to complete his fourth five-wicket haul abroad and a first in the Caribbean after 10 years.
"It's a great feeling to win a Test match abroad which we don't often do and all the boys really put in a tremendous effort," Player of the Match Taijul said.
It was the Tigers' third away Test victory this year after the historic feats at Rawalpindi.
"This win was in unfamiliar conditions. Everyone gave a good effort and the boys were dedicated to getting the win. The pace and spin attack we have, we've been playing well, everyone's in good rhythm, so definitely we can compete against any batting attack," added the experienced Bangladesh campaigner.
Taijul got to work as early as the fifth over when he had Mikyle Louis in a tangle.
The left-arm spinner bagged three wickets in the first two sessions including the all-important wicket of Windies skipper Kraig Brathwaite.
Taijul was quickly on his mark early in the third session as he removed set batter Kavem Hodge, out leg-before for 55. Hodge, looking pretty comfortable, stayed back on the crease and caught in-front of the stumps to a straighter delivery after a fighting knock. It ended the 37-run stand between Hodge and Justin Greaves.
He bagged his fifer when Joshua De Silva was trapped in front of the stumps in a similar manner to Hodge to leave Windies reeling at 164 for seven ki.
