Mohammedan’s ‘Gabbar Singh’ no more

Prominent former cricketer Mahmudul Hasan Saju breathed his last at a city hospital today after losing a battle with cancer. He was 75 years old.

Saju was a well-known medium pacer during his time and made a name for himself by appearing for prominent clubs like Mohammedan and Young Pegasus in the Dhaka league.

He was one of the members of the Bangladesh Cricket Board's special committee formed in 2007 to restructure domestic cricket.

Although Saju never represented Bangladesh on the international stage, his vicious swing made him a prominent name in the domestic circuit. He played for Mohammedan for the majority of his career. Saju also played table tennis while growing up as a proper sportsman in Azimpur.

The six-foot tall cricketer was also known as 'Gabbar Singh' among his team mates for his unique moustache.
