Mominul registers embarrassing record in Jamaica Test
Mominul Haque departed for a six-ball duck in the opening day of Bangladesh's second Test against West Indies yesterday and in the process also registered an ignominious record.
Mominul was caught behind off the bowling of Kemar Roach, falling to the same bowler for the second time in a row, and departed without troubling the scorers for the 17th time in his Test career, highest amongst Bangladeshis in the five-day format.
He was tied with Mohammad Ashraful on 16 ducks since the Mirpur Test against South Africa in October. Ashraful has been out for a duck 16 times in 119 Test innings.
With yesterday's duck, Mominul, who has batted 128 times in Test cricket so far, has eclipsed Ashraful.
Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim, spinner Taijul Islam and pacer Khaled Ahmed are third in the list with 13 ducks each.
Mashrafe Bin Mortuza is fourth in the list with 12 ducks while Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah and Khaled Mashud are jointly fifth with 11 ducks each.
West Indian fast bowling legend Courtney Walsh holds the record in world cricket with 43 ducks.
