'Not done yet': Pandya hungry for more ICC titles

In the summer of 2017, a young and fearless Hardik Pandya played one of the finest innings of his early career. His blistering 76 off just 43 balls in the ICC Champions Trophy final was a lone beacon of hope in an otherwise forgettable night for India, who suffered a heavy 180-run defeat to archrivals Pakistan.

That heartbreak in England left a lasting mark on Pandya, a fire that continued to burn within him for years.

Fast forward to 2025, and Pandya is no longer just the promising all-rounder but a seasoned leader, a proven match-winner, and now, a Champions Trophy champion. India's triumph in Dubai saw him play a crucial role yet again, but this time, the outcome was different.

His composed 18 off 18 balls in the death overs ensured that the team stayed in control, ultimately securing victory and adding another prestigious trophy to India's cabinet.

Reflecting on his journey in ICC website, Pandya couldn't hide his emotions. "2017, the work was left. You know, I could not finish the job back then. And I am very, very glad that tonight is the night where I can say that I am a Champions Trophy winner as well. So, sounds good, I think," he said with a triumphant smile.

But if anyone thought this would be a moment for Pandya to sit back and celebrate, they were mistaken. His hunger for success is insatiable, and his ambitions extend far beyond just one trophy. He has his eyes firmly set on the future, with an unrelenting desire to bring more silverware to India.

"For me, it has always been about winning as many championships as I can. I did say when we won in 2024 that this is not done, I still need 5-6 more trophies there. I am very happy that one more is added," Pandya declared.

With India's recent dominance on the international stage, including last year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup triumph, Pandya remains a key figure in the team's relentless pursuit of success. He emphasised how much donning the blue jersey means to him and how every victory only fuels his passion further.

"The most important thing in my life and my cricketing journey has always been about how I can make sure that my team can win," he said. "It's very satisfying, very calming, and a very happy moment for me every time I step on the field. Even if I don't personally confirm the win, just knowing that the team is victorious -- that's the most beautiful feeling."

As India bask in the glory of their latest ICC title, Pandya has already set his sights on the next big challenge -- the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Set to be held in India, the tournament presents a golden opportunity for the team to defend their title in front of passionate home fans, something Pandya is determined to make happen.

"I love wins like this where everyone comes together, puts their heart out, and fights for the country. This was for India, this was for Bharat. The Champions Trophy is done, next goal -- ICC T20 World Cup in India, lifting the cup," Pandya affirmed.

With his unwavering determination, infectious energy, and ever-growing trophy cabinet, Pandya's journey is far from over. The world has already seen what he is capable of, but in his own words, the mission is still ongoing. For India -- Pandya is just getting started.
