'One cannot play forever, remain in administration forever'

Breaking his silence on the issue, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on Thursday said he enjoyed his time as a cricket administrator but one "cannot play forever, remain in administration forever."

"I was President of the Cricket Association of Bengal for five years. I have been President of BCCI for years. After all these terms, you have to leave and go. As an administrator, you have to contribute a lot and make things better for the team. Me being a player, who was around for a long time, I understood it. I enjoyed my time as an administrator thoroughly. You cannot play forever and you cannot remain in administration forever," said Ganguly at a private bank event in Kolkata.

This was the first time Ganguly spoke on the matter since reports emerged a couple of days ago that he was not getting a second successive term as BCCI President.

Former Indian all-rounder and a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team Roger Binny is set to replace Ganguly as BCCI President.

At a BCCI meeting held in Mumbai on Tuesday, all office bearers from various state cricket associations across India filed nominations for different positions of BCCI including that for President.

The discussions were held in the internal BCCI meeting in the run-up to the BCCI elections scheduled for October 18.
