Rizwan ‘not even one percent ashamed’ of his English skills

Pakistan's white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan has responded to the ongoing criticism and online trolling regarding his English-speaking skills, saying he is "not even one percent ashamed" of not being fluent in the language.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi ahead of Multan Sultans' match against Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Rizwan addressed the issue directly, stating that his focus is on cricket, not language proficiency.
"I am proud that whatever I say, I say it from the heart and I tell the truth," Rizwan said. "But I am not even one percent ashamed that I am a Pakistani and I can't speak English."
The Pakistan ODI skipper acknowledged that his lack of formal education affects his ability to express himself in English, but added that it doesn't impact his cricketing performance.
"I regret not completing my education. I can't express myself properly because of that. I advise young cricketers to focus on their education so they don't face this issue," he said.
Rizwan has been the subject of frequent online memes and jokes, with clips of his English interviews going viral. Some critics have even suggested he should use a translator during international media interactions. However, his recent response has been widely praised for its honesty and composure.
"My Pakistan at this time is demanding cricket from me. It is not demanding English. If it wants English, I will leave cricket to become a professor, learn it, and then return. But I don't have time for that," Rizwan added.
