Shaheen, Wiese heap praise on Rishad for impact on debut

Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain earned praise for his memorable debut for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League on Sunday night.

Left out of the playing XI in Lahore's opening match against Islamabad United on Friday, the 22-year-old seized his opportunity in style in the game against Quetta Gladiators at the Rawalpindi Stadium, which Lahore won by 79 runs.

Rishad was the standout performer with the ball, returning figures of three for 31 in his four overs, helping to dismiss Quetta for 140 while chasing a daunting target of 220.

David Wiese, whose injury paved way for Rishad's inclusion, was all praise for the debutant, complementing him for the work he did in absence of Rashid Khan, who had left the franchise two seasons ago.

"It's difficult to fill the shoes of Rashid Khan. We missed him a lot last year as well. Rishad is a great bowler and an asset for us. Hopefully he will continue to perform for us," the Namibia international said of Rishad's impact.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi, too, praised the young leg-spinner.

"When we picked Rishad today, we wanted to take a bowler who takes wickets in the middle overs. Wiese unfortunately had some niggles and Rishad was the best option as Asif Afridi was bowling with the new-ball," the Lahore skipper said.
