'Shakib bhai is the best'

Bangladesh all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz spoke highly of Shakib Al Hasan's reappointment as Test captain.

It was learned that Miraz, who got the best cricketer award during the Kool-BSPA Sports Award 2021 today at a local hotel, was also being discussed for the hot seat during Thursday's board meeting alongside Shakib and Liton Das.

However, the all-rounder was surprised about why he would be considered when there was a player like Shakib on the list.

"When there was Shakib Bhai, then how come me also. Shakib Bhai is an experienced campaigner. If you consider our current team situation, then Shakib bhai is best," Miraz said.

Miraz, who returned to the team after recovering from a finger injury, added that he was not thinking about captaincy but concentrating on his performance. He was also looking forward to performing well as a team on the upcoming West Indies tour.

"We played in West Indies before and I believe a big challenge awaits us there. We are going to play all three formats this time. Last time we didn't play well in the Test series but this time Shakib bhai is there and he is in form and we will try to play good cricket. Hope our batting will overcome the bad patch soon," he added.
