Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal is set to travel to Singapore for a second opinion on his heart condition, provided he is deemed fit to fly, a family member confirmed to The Daily Star today.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the family member revealed that Dr. Moniruzzaman Maruf—the cardiologist who performed Tamim's stenting surgery at KPJ Specialized Hospital in Savar on March 24—recommended the trip.

"Once Tamim is fit to travel, he will go to Singapore," the family member stated. "His surgeon, Dr. Maruf, is still monitoring him. The purpose of the visit is to seek a second opinion and undergo a more detailed check-up.

"Tamim received one of the best treatments available. Whether it's Singapore, Australia, or England, the quality of care wouldn't have been better."

Tamim suffered a major heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League match at BKSP in Savar. An angiogram later revealed a 100% blockage in one of his arteries and a partial blockage in another, necessitating an immediate stenting procedure.

The 36-year-old was discharged from Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on March 28 after his treatment at KPJ Specialized Hospital and spent Eid with his family.

It will take at least three months to determine whether Tamim can return to field. With his absence in mind, his Dhaka Premier League team, Mohammedan Sporting Club, are preparing for the rest of the season without him. The club is expected to appoint Towhid Hridoy as captain for the remainder of the campaign.
