Tamim ‘still disappointed’ despite win
Bangladesh avoided a series whitewash against England with a 50-run victory in the third and final ODI today in Chattogram but captain Tamim Iqbal expressed his disappointment with the way they lost the home series.
"We were really looking forward to this game. We wanted to finish on a high. Still disappointed because we lost the series. The first game was a killer. Praise must go to England and the way they played," Tamim said during the post-match presentation.
"Adil bhai (Adil Rashid) was brilliant throughout the series. Today was still not the best, we should have scored 270-280. But the bowling effort was fantastic," he added.
Shakib Al Hasan delivered with bat and ball as the Tigers beat England to earn a consolation win. After top scoring with the bat to score 75 runs and help Bangladesh post 246, he returned with the ball to finish with figures of four for 35 as the 35-year-old became the first Bangladesh player to take 300 ODI wickets.
Shakib was adjudged player-of-the-match but the all-rounder, like his skipper, was also not fully satisfied with the performance.
"We've been very good in the last five to seven years at home. We showed a lot of character. We could have rolled over and lost three-nil but we fought to the end and luckily, we got the win," said the ace allrounder.
"We thought we were 20-30 runs short but having said that, our bowlers talked about stepping up and doing a job for the team. We expect our top-order players to score hundreds, not fifties," Shakib added.
