Tanzid admits shortcomings in converting good starts

Bangladesh national team and Legends of Rupganj opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim has admitted he must shoulder more responsibility in order to turn promising starts into meaningful contributions with the bat.
The left-hander made fluent starts in both of Bangladesh's Champions Trophy fixtures — scoring 25 and 24 at a run-a-ball against India and New Zealand respectively — but failed to convert those into bigger scores. His domestic form in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) tells a similar story, with three half-centuries to his name but no significant innings of substance to show for his efforts.
Speaking to reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the 22-year-old acknowledged the need for improvement.
"The first few matches were low-scoring, but we managed to overcome that," he said. "I still feel I have more to contribute to the team, and I'm working hard to deliver in the upcoming games."
Tamim was candid about his own shortcomings, admitting that lapses in focus during key moments have cost him and his team.
"I need to take more responsibility. If I find myself in a similar situation again, I have to step up and improve that part of my game. Starting an innings is tough, and while I've been getting off to good starts, I haven't been able to carry on through the middle overs. That's where I've lacked responsibility, and I'm working on that — even in the DPL. Hopefully, that'll help me become a better performer going forward."
When asked whether the issue was rooted in technique or mentality, the opener admitted that both could be contributing factors.
"It could be both — skill and mindset," he said. "I'm working on my skills, but I won't say exactly which ones," he added with a smile.
Rupganj currently sit sixth in the standings, and with the Super League stage on the horizon, Tamim remains optimistic about his side's chances.
"It's a long tournament, and gaining momentum at the right time is crucial. If we can start strong now, we'll carry that confidence into the Super League stage. The Eid break helped us to refresh. With the balanced squad we have, I'm confident we'll finish well."
