Tigers push for whitewash
Following their first T20I series victory over the West Indies since 2018, Bangladesh will be eyeing a rare clean sweep over the two-time world champions when they play the third and final match of the series in St. Vincent on Friday.
The match is scheduled to start at 6 am (Bangladesh time) and will be telecast live on T Sports.
Riding on yet another impressive batting performance by Shamim Hossain, who struck an unbeaten 35 off 17 balls, the visitors won by 27 runs in the second T20I at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown yesterday, despite scoring a sub-par 129 for seven after being asked to bat.
The bowling unit, led by pacer Taskin Ahmed's three for 16, responded with a combined effort to dismiss the hosts for 102 runs in the 19th over, handing the West Indies back-to-back home series defeats in the format following last month's five-match series loss to England.
After winning the series opener by seven runs, Bangladesh are in a position to whitewash their opponents in a bilateral T20I series, involving three or more matches, for the third time -- having inflicted the same fate on hosts Ireland in 2012 and England at home in 2023.
In a year where the Bangladesh men's team produced a mixed bag in all three formats, with the highlight being their Test series victory against hosts Pakistan and progress into the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup after 17 years, the Tigers will be looking to end 2024 on a high.
