We should not take any chance against any team: Razzak

Bangladesh Cricket Board selector Abdur Razzak on Sunday exercised caution when he said that they were not prepared to take any chances against any side in the world while explaining the decision to include Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan and batter Liton Das for the one-off Test against Ireland at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur starting on Tuesday.

Shakib and Liton have been picked by Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders and there were speculations whether the BCB would allow the duo to leave before the Ireland Test as the IPL had already kicked off on March 31.

But all that speculation was put to rest after the selectors announced the squad for the Test yesterday, including Shakib, thereby backing up the words from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon, who had maintained the stance that the all-rounder along with Liton Das would not be allowed to skip the lone Test against Ireland.

Razzak pointed out that the duo were very important to the side and he wanted to play the best possible side even against a relatively feeble Ireland underlining that the Tigers are still yet to reach a stage where they can afford the luxury to leave several key players out

"They are very important cricketers and Shakib is the captain. Liton is one of our main players. When they are in the side, the team's environment changes very naturally," he told the reporters on Sunday.

"Personally, I want our best team to play. I don't think we should take any chance against any team when it comes to Tests. We still haven't reached a situation where we will be okay even if we lose 4-5 cricketers. I think we still need time to reach that stage," he added.

Now with the confidence of having both Shakib and Liton in the side, confident Razzak asserted that he wants the Tigers to not just win but win comprehensively to show how far they have come as a side and to maintain that status quo where there is a clear gap between the hosts and the visitors when it comes to Test cricket.

"It's simple for me. I want to win and win comprehensively. There was a time, especially when we played Test cricket, teams (like Ireland) would play and win against us, dominate us. We would want to do that as well so that we can show our improvements. The difference between us and the newer teams is like that," he said.
