‘We weren’t able to bowl enough wicket-taking deliveries’

Batter Mohammad Mithun pointed out bowlers' inability to bowl in the right areas as the main shortcoming of the Bangladesh 'A' side on the second day of their first four-day match against hosts West Indies 'A' in Saint Lucia on Friday. 

"I think, we did not bowl enough wicket-taking deliveries," said Mithun, skipper of the Bangladesh 'A' side on their ongoing tour of the Caribbean. 

After suffering a top-order collapse on the opening day, the visitors could not bat long on the second day. Having resumed Day 2 on 135 for six, Bangladesh 'A' were bundled out for 167 in 60.5 overs, with skipper Mithun's 85-ball 50 being the top score for the side. 

At the end of Day 2, the Windies remain in a commanding position, at 165 for three after 63 overs, trailing the visitors' first-innings score by just two runs.     

Mithun said they were unable to build pressure on the Windies batters. 

In such conditions, a batter is challenged when the ball is pitched in the right areas. So that's where we lacked as we could not build the pressure from both ends. [Spinner] Nayeem [Hasan] bowled well from one end. [Pacer] Anamul [Haque] bowled with the new ball. But had we bowled a bit better from the other end as well, we could have gotten two more wickets." 

Mithun added that his team will hope to learn from the mistakes made on Friday and fare better in the following day.
