World Cup trophy to be on display at Padma Bridge

The ICC Cricket World Cup trophy is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on August 7, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) having chalked out plans for the exhibition of the iconic piece of silverware during its three-day visit to the country.

The trophy is scheduled to leave the country on August 9.

"As per out plan currently, we will definitely put it on display at a public place in order to provide the opportunity for common people to watch it. Apart from that we will also ensure an opportunity to the BCB members and players along with media people," BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury Sujon told the media on Tuesday.

With the intension of displaying the trophy at iconic places, the BCB has chosen Padma Bridge as one of the exhibition spots.

"There is a demand from the ICC that whichever country the trophy travels to the photo sessions should take place in prominent places. We previously had photo session in front of the National Parliament building. Since the Padma Bridge is the pride of the nation and an iconic structure, our plan is to arrange a phot session on the bridge," he said.

The second and third days of the tour will provide opportunity to the general people to witness the trophy from up close.

"Our plan is to put the World Cup trophy on display inside a shopping mall, which we did in the past too. We will try to make sure it gets displayed for a long period so that more people get the opportunity to see it. In that case most probably we will put the trophy on display on August 8 or 9 at a certain time," said Sujon.
