'This is for you, Abba': Jaker Ali's heartfelt Facebook post
Jaker Ali Anik shared a heartfelt message on his official Facebook page, dedicating Bangladesh's 101-run victory in the second Test against West Indies in Jamaica to his late father, after having made tremendous contribution with the bat to the team's cause.
The lower-order batter batted with the tail-end and made sure Bangladesh posted a challenging target for the hosts with a stroke-filled 91-run knock. His effort eventually paid off as Bangladesh won their first Test on Caribbean soil since 2009.
Reflecting on his memories of that series victory, when Jaker was only 11 years old, the wicketkeeper-batter wrote:
"I was 11 years old back then. I didn't miss a single match of that 2009 series. I used to stay up all night watching Bangladesh play. One day, my father woke up and found that I was watching the game. He just stared at me, but didn't scold," the 26-year-old wrote on Facebook.
"Fifteen years later, I am playing for Bangladesh in the same series. If Abba were alive, he might have stayed up all night watching me play.
"Anyway, this is for you, Abba ❤️," the Facebook post further read.
Having made a tremendous start to his red-ball career with three half-centuries in three matches, Jaker would hope to bring many more memorable moments for himself and his nation.
