Tamim Iqbal led from the front with a stroke-laden 39 as Peshawar Zalmi defeated Islamabad United by 34 runs in their Pakistan Super League match in Dubai.

While in the day's second match Mustafizur Rahman failed to make an impact as his team Lahore Qalanders suffered a thrashing 9-wicket defeat against Quetta Gladiators. Lahore scored only 119 runs which was easily surpassed by Quetta in 14 overs.

After Islamabad sent Peshawar in to bat, Tamim made his intentions clear, smashing a wide Mohammad Sami delivery for four.

Kamran Akmal, who hit a scorching 32-ball 53, took over the reins at the other end. West Indian Andre Russel faced the wrath of the opening duo in his first open, hemorrhaging 21 runs, including two fours and a six from Kamran Akmal and a massive maximum from Tamim.

Tamim added another six, running down the pitch and smacking the ball back over Samit Patel, and another four before departing and leaving the score at 121 for two.

Peshawar posted a challenging 176 for six. In reply Islamabad folded meekly for 142.
