Late in the second day of the Johannesburg Test, South Africa’s Quinton De Kock missed out on a stumping opportunity as he got himself stung by a bee.

Shaun Marsh had come down the pitch to meet a Keshav Mahraj delivery only to be beaten as the ball passed the outside edge of his pads. De Kock failed to collect the ball as it hit his pad. The wicket-keeper bent down to collect the ball but stopped suddenly, owing to the fact that a bee had infiltrated his defences and was sticking to his left arm. De Kock stopped trying to gather the ball and was seen flicking the bee away while the ball rolled away for a bye.

Later the wicket-keeper was attended to by South Africa Physiotherapist. The stumping miss did not prove costly as Marsh was removed by Mahraj after adding just one more run to his total. Wanderers is prone to bee attacks as last year, a beekeeper had to be called into the ground during a match between South Africa and Sri Lanka after a swarm of bees had taken a liking to the field of play.
