Sunny posted offensive photos of woman, say police

Bangladesh cricketer Arafat Sunny is accused of posting objectionable photographs of a woman using fake Facebook IDs, police said today after primary investigation.

Police arrested Sunny today under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act after the woman filed a case.

Sunny recently married the woman, Biplob Kumar Sarker, deputy commissioner (Tejgaon Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told The Daily Star.  

She earlier requested Sunny many times to complete the formalities of their marriage, the DC said quoting the case statement.

The woman filed the case with the Mohammadpur Police Station on January 5, Jamaluddin Mir, officer-in-charge (OC) of the station, said.

She alleged that Sunny posted her nude pictures on the social media using fake Facebook IDs in June and November last year, the investigating officer of the case said.

The woman claimed that she had a love affair with Sunny for over seven years, the Sub-inspector Md Yeahea, the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said.

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Magistrate Pranab Kumar Hui granted a one-day remand after the IO of the case produced Sunny before the court with a five-day remand prayer.

“In primary investigation, we have found the allegation true,” the OC said.

Arafat Sunny last represented Bangladesh during the T20 World Cup when he played against Pakistan on 16 March, 2016 at Kolkata. He took two wickets for 34 runs in four overs. Sunny’s last ODI appearance was on 11 November, 2015 during the home series against Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed and Sunny were reported for suspect bowling actions during the side's ICC World Twenty20 first round match against the Netherlands in Dharamsala. Following remedial work and re-assessments, the International Cricket Council (ICC) found Taskin and Arafat’s bowling action to be legal on 23 September, 2016.
