Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal, coach Chandika Hathurusingha and manager Asanka Gurusinha were charged by ICC chief David Richardson as they admitted to "conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game", breaching Article 2.3.1, a Level 3 offence, which could have them suspended for two Tests, an ICC release stated.

Sri Lanka refused to take to the field in St Lucia at the start of play on the third day of the second Test against West Indies, causing a two-hour delay to the start of proceedings. The trio was entangled in that episode as they were informed 10 minutes before the scheduled start of play by on-field umpires that the ball was being changed after they suspected it had been illegally tampered by Chandimal on the second evening. He was subsequently banned for one match after a hearing with match referee Javagal Srinath after the match.

ICC, after announcing on Thursday that Chandimal will appeal the ban, has appointed The Hon Michael Beloff QC as the Judicial Commissioner for the hearing of the case and to determine an appropriate sanction. Beloff will also hear Chandimal's appeal against match referee Srinath's decision of handing him two suspension points which will see him miss the third Test and levying a 100 per cent match fee fine for having illegally altered the condition of the ball.

Hathurusingha and Gurusinha are available for Saturday's final Test in Barbados as the verdict to their case will only be given after the Test.

If Chandimal’s ban is upheld, Sri Lanka will be captained by either Suranga Lakmal or Rangana Herath.
