Abahani Limited v Prime Bank Cricket Club

Abahani Limited, led by Tamim Iqbal became the Dhaka Premier League 2016 champions when they trounced Prime Bank Cricket Club by 115 runs at Mirpur today to finish on top of the points table.

Chasing 317 for victory, Prime Bank were placed relatively well at 2-115 inside 23 overs. Abahani bowlers struck back with vengeance and it was Saqlain Sajib who decimated Prime Bank with his slow, left-arm bowling. Saqlain took his best bowling figures in List A cricket with 7-58 in 9.2 overs. Shuvagata Hom tried to bring his team back into the match but his 51 in 33 balls went in vain.

Earlier, Abahani Limited amassed 316 for 7 in 50 overs riding on captain Tamim Iqbal’s terrific ton and Mosaddek blitz against Prime Bank Cricket Club led by Shuvagata Hom today.

Tamim opted to bat first, and had to contend with tight bowling spells in the initial stages. However, the 4th wicket partnership of 173 in 22.1 overs took the game away from Prime Bank. The Southpaw from Chittagong hammered his second century in the ongoing DPL after his 105 not out against Cricket CS on June 6, and left the field after he had 142 runs to his name. He faced 132 balls, smacked 11 fours and four sixes to the delight of his teammates.

Mosaddek Hossain joined his captain and continued from where he left off in the previous match. He made 78 from 74, and his entertaining knock contained three fours and five massive sixes. Even Abul Hasan cashed in on loose bowling late in the innings and used the long handle extensively. Prime Bank bowling was steady to begin to with, but became erratic when under pressure. Unmukt Chand was the most successful bowler for his side, and took three wickets in nine overs. Nazmul Islam was more economical in his spells, and captured two wickets for 48 runs.

Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club v Legends of Rupganj

Mosharraf Hossain’s Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club finished as runners-up in DPL 2016 after they came out in front by seven wickets against Legends of Rupganj at BKSP today.

Prime DSC didn’t have to break a sweat to chase down 143, which they achieved for the loss of only three wickets and 145 balls left in the bag. Raqibul Hasan took his team home with his unbeaten 66 from 77. His match-winning knock contained 10 hits to the fence. Rony Talukdar made 42 while Sachin Baby scored 23.

Three Rupganj bowlers were among the wickets today. Taijul Islam, Abu Hider and Alauddin Babu grabbed a wicket each.

Earlier today, Legends of Rupganj suffered a dramatic collapse to crash to 143 all out in 41.2 overs against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club At BKSP’s No.3 ground.

From 3-43 inside 12 overs, Rupganj went on a nose-dive and lost their last seven wickets for 100 runs. Asif Ahmed witnessed the fall of wickets from his end, and stood his ground with 59 not out to his name. The next highest run-getter for Rupganj was Pawan Negi with 16.

Prime DSC captain Farhad Reza used his bowlers smartly, and Rahatul Ferdous responded to his call of duty with four wickets for 36 runs in 10 overs. Al-Amin Hossain captured 3-29 to put the skids on Rupganj innings.

Victoria Sporting Club v Mohammedan Sporting

Mohammedan Sporting Club’s miserable run in the Super League ended with a defeat at the hands of Victoria Sporting Club when the Motijheel-based outfit failed to chase down 206 at Fatullah.

Mohammedan looked like they were firmly in the driver’s seat at 3-132 inside 28 overs. However, Victoria bowlers rose to the occasion and took wickets at regular intervals. Nazimuddin made a run-a-ball fifty, Mushfiqur Rahim scored 46 but the rest of the batters could not keep their heads down and do the basics right.

Mominul Haque was the star with the ball for Victoria. His 3-29 in nine overs threw the cat among the pigeons as far as Mohammedan were concerned. Fazle Mahmud picked up two scalps to help his team’s cause.

Earlier, Mohammedan Sporting Club managed to restrict Victoria Sporting club to 205 in 48.3 overs at Fatullah in the Super League clash of DPL 2016. Victoria were rattled early, but Mominul Haque and Al-Amin stopped the rot with positive batting. After they were sent back to the pavilion, Mohammedan bowlers broke Victoria’s back with wickets late in the innings.

Mominul made 58 from 60, and his knock contained three fours and two sixes. Al-Amin’s 55 was made in 70 balls. Mohammedan captain Naeem Islam used six bowlers today, and almost all of them gave him important breakthroughs. Enamul Haque jnr took 3-45 in 10 while Habibur Rahman and Faisal Hossain captured two each.
