Tearful Tamim leaves without fulfilling his ‘one last dream’
"I have only one dream right now," Tamim Iqbal had expressed his ambitions while he was talking with the Daily Star during an exclusive interview in April last year.
"I have no individual desire. The only dream I have right now is to win a trophy for the country," said the prolific left-hander when asked about his next dream as a player.
But it came as a shock for millions of his fans when Tamim announced his retirement from international cricket today, especially during a time when Bangladesh were gearing up for the upcoming ODI World Cup this year under his captaincy.
It was a long-cherished dream for Tamim to lead the team in the World Cup but everybody is now searching for answers for why he took such a decision without giving any hints.
"The way we've been playing this format, I don't see a reason to not dream about it. As a captain, I believe we can dream all the way. I think there are still one or two spots that need fixing. If we can check-mark these spots, I'll be very pleased as a captain," told the opening batter when asked during that interview whether we can realistically dream big for the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India.
There has been some issues regarding his fitness but no one in the sporting fraternity was in a position to think that he would say goodbye to international cricket.
